Three WKU students have been awarded Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) study abroad scholarships for the fall 2023 application cycle. The winners were offered scholarships to study abroad in Germany, South Korea and Tanzania in winter 2023/24 and spring 2024. All three students had previously been accepted to study abroad through Gilman Scholarships.
Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) makes life-changing international educational experiences available to all by supporting underrepresented minority and first-generation college students in studying in the United States . This application cycle, 90% of awardees identify as students of color and 88% are first-generation college students.
Juanito (JC) Guzman Perkins Son of Amanda Perkins of Glasgow. He is a recipient of the Gateway International Group Scholarship. He is majoring in Religious Studies, minoring in Chinese, and holds a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). He won a scholarship to study religion in South Korea in the winter of 2024. After graduating, he plans to teach English in South Korea.
Koh Mae bowling green She is the daughter of Se Le and Le Mai. She is a Gateway International Group Scholarship recipient. She majored in Healthcare Management and won a scholarship to study in Tanzania in the winter of 2023/24, where she completed an international healthcare course. After graduation, she plans to work in the medical field.
braxton turner of Bowling Green is a recipient of the AIFS Access Partner Scholarship. With a double major in finance and management with an emphasis on global business, he earned a scholarship to study international business in Germany in spring 2024. After graduating from WKU, he plans to pursue a career in international finance.
All recognized students worked with Will Randolph, national competitive opportunity specialist in WKU’s Office of Scholarly Development, to prepare their applications.
Students interested in studying abroad are encouraged to apply for scholarships early, as planning a year in advance maximizes their chances of receiving a scholarship. To explore the possibility of studying abroad, students can work with WKU Global to find the best study abroad program that fits their goals and work with the WKU Scholar Development Office to find nationally competitive scholarships. is recommended. Students studying abroad in summer and fall 2024 may apply for the latest her FEA cycle until February 7, 2024.
