Nguyen said young conservatives like himself are being mentored by MAGA-types who offer to help advance their careers.
“They find a lot of freedom-seeking people, throw money at them and take them to summer camp,” she says. “I was kind of shocked at how many important people handed me their business cards and said, ‘Let’s have coffee.’ I think at one point I got Heidi Cruz’s business card. She said, “That’s very promising, let’s play together.”
“When you’re really young, that kind of access is amazing in a way and you feel really grateful to these people. But then you’re also a little bit naive and you’re like, ‘Oh my god, I’m so grateful.’ I just want to make you proud,’” she said.
