Troy DeCare is the latest Children’s Dream Fund 50 participant confirmed Tuesday afternoon by DeCare and Charlie Norman Motorsports owners Daniel and Chaz Hambling. Dikea will be piloting a Hurricane chassis equipped with a 410 engine in this race.
This event is a collaboration between the Must Sea Racing Sprint Series presented by Perfit and the BG Products Southern Sprint Car Shootout, to be held on March 2, 2024 at Citrus County Speedway in Inverness, Florida. This will be a joint event in the series.
Dekea has not been behind the wheel of a sprint car since September 23. Dekea was competing in the Pink Lady Classic in Meridian, Idaho. He collided with another car and his car was thrown hard into the turn three catch fence. The car got stuck in the catch fence and dangled several feet off the ground. Dekea suffered a severe concussion and suffered multiple injuries, including cracked ribs and a separated shoulder.
“Scotty Adema was one of my first shock customers. He’s stuck with me ever since I first started making shocks. I’ve been glued around him. Scotty and Chaz Hambling teamed up to purchase two cars that I had previously driven or owned. I had built a reputation as a Hurricane chassis specialist. They helped me solve problems. I wanted to help you figure it out.”
“They asked me if I could drive around because they were going into town on March 2nd. It’s an old car that George Rudolph and my father, Terry, used to drive. It was sold. When I heard it was there, I called a bunch of people to try and get it purchased. It just so happened that Chaz got it. Chaz wanted me to drive it in that race. He said he had a brand new 410 in stock from Engler. He said we were talking now. It’s an old one. What you want is an old Hurricane. He said he bought it. , called me to help with it, and now he wants me to drive it.”
DeCaire suggested he may not have fully recovered from his September accident, but said he is healthy enough to return to the car that carries the $10,000 first prize.
“I’m as prepared as I can be. I broke a couple of ribs. At one point I dislocated my shoulder, which I know all too well. I also had a pretty bad concussion. I was dizzy so bad. I couldn’t drive the tram for a month or two. It’s healed well enough. It’s the first time I’ve been back in a car since the accident.”
“We had already committed to the Children’s Dream Fund 50 when we paid $5,000 for the winner. What caught my attention is that it’s located an hour from where I live. 10 grand is nice. I approach them the same way, no matter what the cost. ”
That didn’t bother De Caire when all eyes were on his top-notch batting talent, which included Jimmy McCune, Davey Hamilton Jr. and Aaron Willison.
“I’m excited for everyone to come. This is the first time in my career that they’ve all come to my backyard. I’ve had success all over the country, but I’m excited for them. This is the first time they’ve had to come to me. No disrespect to any of them at all. But I was playing in Dave Steele’s backyard. I raced for 15 years. I think the best in this country has been here forever. The roster is great and I love seeing the diversity of drivers that are coming up. To be honest, racing with Dave Steele It was tough. He was the benchmark for the entire country. I think he still is.”
“Back in the day, we had some hitters: Doug Heveron, Wayne Roitman, Bo Hartley, Dude Teat, and all three Butlers. What really helped set us up for everything was starting at the beginning. It was Must Sea Racing back in the day. I don’t think we’ve seen a roster like that since then. I think we’re getting back to where we were. Guys like Jimmy and Aaron are supporting this. And I’m glad you’re here to help build this. I’m hoping that at the beginning of this year, we’ll all be able to get together here in Florida. That’s what we have now. I think it’s really necessary. That’s what I want anyway. I’m proud to fly the Florida flag at the Children’s Dream Fund 50.”
“I love what JJ Dutton is doing with this. Cancer is close to my family, as my mother had cancer. Anything we can do to raise money for cancer organizations. If there is, I’m all for it. If we can help grow tarmac sprint car racing and raise money for the Children’s Dream Fund organization, it’s a dream come true for everyone involved. This is a dream come true for everyone involved. I’m happy to play my part in everything. I think what he’s doing is incredible. Win, lose or draw, for me to be a part of this race is… It’s the best thing ever,” Dekea concluded.
The Charlie Norman Motorsports team, consisting of Dekea, Scotty Adema and Ryan Adam, will be a “super team” of sorts. With plenty of seat time and knowledge, this team is one to watch at the Children’s Dream Fund 50 on March 2nd.
