Since launching her fashion brand Nenya in Leeds just over a year ago, Ukrainian refugee Yana Smagro has gone from strength to strength and is now launching her brand with online retailer Debenhams.
Yana, who fled the Ukraine war two years ago, received support from businesses and individuals across Yorkshire and now runs a successful fashion company, promoting Ukrainian brands and exporting to more than 15 countries around the world.
This new development was announced shortly after she won “Indie Business of the Year” at SmartWorks’ “Force for Good Ball” last November.
Yana commented: “Winning the award at the end of last year was a great end to 2023 and recognition for my brand and all the work I have done since fleeing to the UK. Being able to launch on the Debenhams site is a huge boost to my online sales.
“This year we want to increase this revenue stream and also partner with other brands like John Lewis and Selfridges. The more connections we make, the more we want to go back to Ukraine and support people and industry. You can continue to do so.”
Antonia Quinlan, who oversaw all business support for Jana, added: “I am so proud of how Jana has embraced all the support she has been given and used it to make her business a success.
“Working with everyone involved has been fantastic and really shows the teamwork of the people of Yorkshire.”
