EAST TAWAS – The Tawas-Whitmore-Hale United Fund Board of Directors awarded $13,000 to 10 institutions that voted for 2024 support during its January meeting held Thursday at the East Tawas Community Center. Assigned.
Assignments will be made to agencies quarterly, with the first assignment being made this month. Each of the 10 agencies focuses on child- and family-related activities.
So far, the organization has raised more than $11,400 during its 2023-2024 campaign. TWH United Fund President John Morris said this year’s campaign activity is expected to be greater than the amount raised in previous years’ campaigns.
The board unanimously approved allocating a $100 increase to agencies that have representation on the TWH United Fund board. Three of the four institutions have representatives who are long-time members of United Funds.
Approved to receive an allocation of $1,600 each from the 2024 TWH United Fund are Iosco Coats for Kids, Tawas Area Education Foundation, Girl Scouts, and Tawas FISH, Inc. Each to receive $1,000 is Hale Area Education Foundation, Whitemore-Prescott Education Foundation, Hope Shores Alliance, Boy Scouts, Hail Soccer, Iosco County 4-H.
Ten government agencies requested $16,000 in funding for the organization in 2024. The local United Fund board had set a goal of raising $20,000.
Additionally, United Fund was selected this year to receive a $5,000 grant from the American Gypsum Foundation. In response to this grant, the United Fund Board will provide additional one-time allocations of $835 each to 4-H, Tawas, Hale, Whittemore Prescott Educational Foundation, Coats for Kids, and Tawas Fish. approved.
Also, as in previous years, local boards could increase their funding this year if additional funding comes in.
The local United Fund is overseen by an all-volunteer board.
