The Washington County Commission approved the funding request at Thursday’s regular meeting.
The County Commission allocated $341,066 in additional funding to the Washington County Behavioral Health Board for costs related to the State Opioid and Stimulant Response 3.0 (SOS 3.0). SOS 3.0 is a grant program that supports funding for quality prevention, harm reduction, early intervention, treatment and recovery in Ohio, according to the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services website.
The commission also approved $11,392.92 in additional funding to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office in COPS grants to be used for personnel-related costs. According to the U.S. Department of Justice’s website, COPS grants will help law enforcement agencies increase their ability to implement community policing strategies.
Commissioners approved $12,375 in additional funding to the Washington County Families and First Help Me Grow Fund to support the program. According to the Ohio Department of Health website, Help Me Grow is a parent support program that encourages prenatal and early childhood care and parenting education to promote children’s health and development.
Other business addressed by the committee at the meeting included:
≤ 38 then & Now items approved. This is a purchase order over $100.
≤ Voted to hold engineering consultations with American Structure Point for the complex parking project until we have more time to consider it. It will be discussed at the next regular meeting.
≤ Expressing support for the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, which wants to apply for violent crime reduction funding to install crowd cameras at major intersections in the county. Commissioner John Booth said Flock’s cameras work with law enforcement systems to recognize license plates and vehicles. “I commend the Sheriff’s Department for acting so proactively and finding the criminal and protecting public safety.” Booth said.
≤ Sam Skinner appointed to the Workforce Development Committee.
≤ Approved a memorandum of understanding extending the collective bargaining agreement between the Washington County Department of Employment and Family Services and employees of Local Union 772 of the American Federation of State, County and City Employees for one year.
≤ Kings III of America, LLC approves agreement to install emergency telephones in county elevators.
≤ Expressing support for the Ohio House of Representatives’ vote to override Governor Mike DeWine’s veto of HB 68. The bill would ban gender-affirming care for minors and ban transgender athletes from playing on women’s sports teams.
Commissioners met in executive session for about 45 minutes to discuss real estate.
They returned from the executive meeting at 10:30 a.m., but adjourned the meeting without taking any action on any of the issues discussed in the session.
