The West Hartford Greater Together Community Fund will hold virtual information sessions on April 1 and April 5 to provide details on the upcoming grant process.

The West Hartford Greater Together Community Fund is one of 29 town-specific funds established by the Hartford Public Endowment Foundation in 2019 to improve the town’s quality of life and meet community needs. It has been launched to provide grants to non-profit organizations that directly address the issue. Process for awarding fourth round funding.
The West Hartford Greater Together Community Fund Advisory Committee plans to award grants of $3,000 to $6,000 each in this round.
WHGTCF said funding may be awarded to support innovative new initiatives, original ideas and improvements to current projects and programs, and partnerships and collaborations are encouraged. “We welcome the community to participate and participate in the creation and growth of programs/activities that make a difference in the lives of West Hartford residents,” the grant process announcement states.
Applications are now being accepted and proposals must be submitted by April 30, 2024 at 5:00 PM EDT.
The Hartford Public Giving Foundation initially seeded each fund with $100,000, with a total of $25,000 awarded to seven West Hartford nonprofits in the first round. The grant amounts awarded to organizations in 2021 ranged from $1,850 to $5,500, with grant amounts determined after considering the scope and focus of the project proposal.
In its second round of grant funding in 2022, the West Hartford Greater Together Community Fund Advisory Committee awarded 10 grants. The following organizations were awarded the award. Autism Families CONNECTicut. Children’s Reading Partners; Connecticut Alliance for Victims of Violence and Their Families, Inc. (CT-ALIVE); Dignity Grows, Inc.; Golden Door: Immigration Center. Jewish Teen Learning Connection (JT Connect); Senior Job Bank, Inc.; Voices of Hope; Psychotherapy Volunteers. West Hartford Parent Community Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Group (WH EDI).
The third round in 2023 awarded more than $20,000 to five local organizations, including Dignity Grows, Inc. For All Ages Inc.; Golden Door: Immigration Center. Senior Job Bank, Inc.; and West Hartford Parent Community Concerns.
To determine funding priorities for the latest round of grants, the City of West Hartford recently conducted a study and the WGTCF Advisory Committee engaged in additional research. According to an announcement about the new grant round, “Applications will be accepted and evaluated for the 2024 cycle from any organization or project/program that benefits West Hartford residents. West Hartford parents, youth, Priority will be given to programs and projects that specifically support older adults, historically underserved populations and communities, with an emphasis on building inclusive communities, youth mental health services, and basic human needs. Priority will again be given to organizations and groups with operating budgets not exceeding $2 million.”
Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations registered as 501(c)(3) organizations that serve or benefit the residents of West Hartford. Organizations do not have to be headquartered or based in West Hartford. Resident groups can also partner with registered nonprofit organizations that save money as financial agents for proposed projects, the release said.

The all-volunteer West Hartford Community Foundation Advisory Committee was formed in 2020. The advisory board includes West Hartford residents Christopher Clark, Vivian de Oliveira Rinaldi, Tracy Wu Furstenberg (co-chair), Mike Fournier (co-chair), Kaelyn Hallgren, Zhonghua Li, and Obinna Nwafor (co-chair). , Toral Sanghavi, Gunjan Sharma, Penny Smith, and Holly Williams. Recruitment for new advisory board members is expected to occur in fall 2024.
