The Whitefish Community Foundation has awarded Land to Hand a $7,700 Kids Fund grant to expand and upgrade food, clothing and resource storage for students at Columbia Falls High School.
Land to Hand is a nonprofit organization that works closely with the Columbia Falls School District to provide weekend and supplemental food to K-12 students.
Since 2018, Land to Hand has operated a small food pantry within the high school, serving 50 to 60 students with basic needs each week. The organization recently gained access to more space for its high school pantry, allowing it to better serve its students. The Whitefish Community Foundation Kids Fund grant will be used to purchase pantries including refrigerators, microwaves, tables, shelving, food and hygiene supplies. Not only will students be able to prepare meals in the new space, but they will also be able to “shop” for needed supplies.
“Columbia Falls High School’s dedication to ensuring all students have access to nutritious food is essential to the success of our community,” said Land to Hand Executive Director Gretchen Boyer. ” he said. “When our students grow, we all grow.”
The Kids Fund was created in 2019 to support health, safety and education programs that alleviate challenges and prevent homelessness among local youth. To date, the Whitefish Community Foundation has supported Flathead Youth Home, CASA for Kids, Child Bridge, Glacier Country Boys & Girls Club, Restorative Youth Justice Center, Nate Shute Foundation, and Bigfork Ace.
