As of 3 p.m. Thursday, March 28, approximately 2,501 donors have donated $1,027,216 to United Way’s Indian Lake Tornado Relief Fund. In addition, United Way provided $100,000 to be used in the first phase of funding to agencies directly involved in the immediate response, which will be used to: $1,127,216.
Here’s a breakdown of how the approximately $88,000 in Phase 1 relief funds were allocated:

Use of collected funds
Phase 1 funding
To date, $87,347.16 in Phase 1 funding has been used to:
- Aries Pharmacy – $1,000 for prescription drug costs and victim copayments.
- liberty roofing – $30,000 to provide roofing materials and repairs to uninsured victims.
- Logan County Cancer Society – $5,000 to cover the cost of lost medications/supplies for cancer patients.
- Mary Rutan Foundation – $9,337.78 – To purchase and ship a generator for immediate use in the Indian Lake area.
- Mary Rutan Foundation – $10,000 for prescription drug costs and victim copayments.
- Peak of Hope Homeless Shelter – $20,000 for temporary hotel stays for medically vulnerable survivors who do not have access to local emergency shelters.
- RTC service – $5,000 to provide transportation/shuttle services to victims who lost their vehicles.
- TCN Behavioral Health – $5,000 to cover the basic needs of clients affected by mental health.
- united way – $1,636.16 – Purchase equipment and supplies to establish two multi-agency resource centers.
- united way – $233.81 – Rent a portable storage unit and have it delivered to downtown Lakeview.
- united way – $139.41 – Floodlight for material distribution point in downtown Lakeview.
Phase 2 funding
Tuesday, March 26 The United Way Board of Directors laid the groundwork for the distribution of funds to be donated to the Indian Tornado Lake Relief Fund at last night’s monthly meeting. A committee comprised of tornado victims from each affected area, as well as representatives from Indian Lake schools, the Lakeview and Russells Point business and faith communities, and the United Way Board. will convene next Tuesday to formulate criteria and allocation methods. “Last week, we received an unprecedented level of support for the Indian Lake community,” said United Way Executive Director Dave Bezusko. “Consider that this pot of money didn’t even exist a week ago. In 10 days, we’ve raised as much money as we did last year.
