With the future of St. Augustine’s World Golf Village up in the air, St. Johns County confirmed Wednesday that the IMAX theater at the county-owned complex will not be closing anytime soon.
“We want to reassure our residents that there are no plans to close our IMAX theaters,” County Governor Joy Andrews said in a statement. “Despite rumors circulating about a potential closure date, St. Johns County remains committed to transparency and communication with the public regarding the future of IMAX theaters.”
To prevent the theater from closing, St. John’s County announced that it has reached an agreement with the foundation to continue operating the theater while the county searches for a new long-term operator for the facility.
The World Golf Hall of Fame Foundation, the organization that operates the Hall of Fame and several other facilities at One World Golf Place, announced in 2022 that it plans to cease operations in St. Johns County by the end of 2023. Since then, the theater’s future has been uncertain. .

St. Johns County hosted a community survey last fall to gauge public interest in the property, which includes a 64,000-square-foot Hall of Fame building, a 32,000-square-foot PGA Tour office building and 36 acres of land. . The South Legacy Trail includes parking, water features, and more. The PGA Tour will stay there until the end of this year, then move to a new facility near TPC Sawgrass Golf Course.
The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners plans to discuss the findings and the “future potential” of the land at a future meeting.
