On the fifth day of the IIHF World Junior Championship held in Sweden on December 30th, only two games were scheduled as the quarterfinals were just around the corner.
Switzerland and Norway open the day, while Germany, who defeated Finland 4-3 on December 27th in one of the tournament’s upsets so far, will face Latvia.
The USA and Sweden, who defeated Hockey Canada 2-0 on Dec. 29, remain undefeated in group play through four days. USA Hockey and Canada Hockey are considered favorites to win the WJC, but Chris Peters said host Sweden could also qualify.
World Juniors is the world’s top junior hockey event, featuring some of the most prominent 2024 NHL Draft prospects, including Canada’s Maclin Celebrini.
Day 6 will include all games leading up to the end of group play, including Team USA vs. Slovakia and Sweden vs. Finland. Matches will be suspended on January 1st, with the quarterfinals starting on January 2nd.
