World Triathlon is proud to announce the opening of applications for the 2024 Athlete Scholarship Program. This program aims to identify athletes from developing/emerging national federations (NF Group*: 2, 3B, 3A) and provide them with support, resources and expertise. They are most needed to compete at continental and global level in the final months of the Olympic qualification period (deadline May 27, 2024) and to support preparation and qualification for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics.

Eligibility criteria
To be eligible, athletes must be registered and in good standing with their national federation and must have demonstrated the ability to race to a high standard in Continental and World Triathlon Cup level competitions. Nominated athletes must commit to long-term competition, with the ultimate goal of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Athletes must have the potential to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games via one of the following qualification routes:
– Individual Olympic Qualification Ranking
– Triathlon World Ranking – Continental “New Flag”
– Universality Invitational Place (IOC Tripartite Commission)
– Must belong to an emerging/developing national federation (NF group: 2, 3B, 3A).
– All applications will be considered with strong approval from the National Athletes Federation.

Timeline
Applications must be submitted by Monday, February 12, 2024 (CET) using the online application form. Successful applicants will be notified by the end of February 2024 and World Triathlon Development will coordinate plans with successful applicants and their NF.
Please note: All applications must be submitted by the applicant’s respective national federation. National federations must maintain good relations with World Triathlon.

The amount of funding allocated to each athlete depends on the program outline that the NF submits to each candidate.
Utilization of World Triathlon Athlete Scholarship
The World Triathlon Athlete Scholarship can be used for the following purposes as defined in the Athlete’s 2024 Plan and approved by World Triathlon Development:
– Participation in qualifying races for the 2024 Paris Games (travel, accommodation)
– Training camp
– Massage, physical therapy
Recipient evaluation and requirements
Selected athletes will be tracked throughout their placement and regular reports will be requested from the candidate and their personal coach. All recipients will be permitted to participate in interviews and photo shoots (within reason and without interfering with an athlete’s training, racing, or school commitments) in order to promote the program nationally and internationally. Next Triathlon Generation Scholarship – After the Paris Olympics
After the 2024 Paris Olympics, World Triathlon will release the next generation triathlon generation program in July 2024, starting with the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
