The world’s first fully autonomous AI-powered restaurant recently opened in Southern California.
At CaliExpress by Flippy, a new restaurant that opened in December, robots cook burgers and fry fries. The restaurant is located at 561 E. Green Street in Pasadena.
Guests visiting the restaurant can watch the robot prepare their food from start to finish after placing their order. Orders can also be customized, according to a news release.
The restaurant is a partnership between Cali Group, a technology-forward holding company, Miss Robotics, developer of the world’s first AI-powered robotic frying station Flippy, and PopID, a technology company that uses biometrics to simplify ordering and ordering. It was born thanks to a partnership between payment system.
The restaurant’s menu consists of hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and fries.
“To our knowledge, this is the first operating restaurant in the world where both ordering and all food preparation processes are fully automated,” PopID CEO John Miller said in a statement.
“Combining these different technologies to build the world’s most autonomous restaurant is the culmination of years of research, development and investment in our innovative family of companies.”
The company also claims that using this technology in restaurants will virtually eliminate slips and burns, reducing food and oil waste. The CaliExpress by Flippy kitchen may also be operated by a small staff, according to a news release.
The CaliExpress by Flippy location doubles as a pseudo-museum experience provided by Miso Robotics. Guests can see dancing robotic arms, experimental 3D printed artifacts, photography exhibits, and more.
Consumers can access CaliExpress by Flippy by making reservations online, but the website appears to be down as of Tuesday evening.
A grand opening of the restaurant is planned for the near future.
