desert camping
“All five of our desert southwest camps on the Grand Circle Road Trip through Utah and Arizona are officially DarkSky certified,” said Under Canvas Chief Marketing Officer. May Lily stated. “We continue to set the standard in that Under Canvas reduces light pollution, protects the night sky, and provides guests with an immersive and unparalleled nighttime experience found nowhere else on Earth. I’m very proud to have it.”
A 2023 study found that over the past 12 years, the brightness of the night sky has increased by 7 to 10 percent per year.
So dark places are now very popular travel destinations, but ironically, increased space travel means increased light pollution.
top travel trends
Ruskin Hartley, CEO of DarkSky International, said: “Today, astrotourism is at the top of the list in the world as travelers seek out destinations that offer ideal conditions for stargazing and observing celestial phenomena. It has become one of the top travel trends in the world.” “By encouraging sustainable space tourism through education and responsible nighttime outdoor lighting, we are protecting a natural resource that is proven to provide a huge economic stimulus to rural areas where the stars still shine bright. while preserving the celestial landscape.”
DarkSky International has certified Dark Sky Places since 2001, protecting more than 160,000 square kilometers of land and night skies in 22 countries on six continents.
safari style
Under Canvas Resort consists of luxurious safari-style tents with private bathrooms, king-sized beds, and wood-burning stoves. The company’s “Stargazer” tent has an optically clear plastic window above the bed.
Glamping resorts are looking to make the most of their new status, with telescopes installed on-site and viewing events and star parties planned on full moon, new moon and peak meteor shower nights.
I wish you clear skies and big eyes.
