Carter Bankshare celebrates 50th anniversary
Martinsville-based Carter Bank (NASDAQ: CARE) is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
The bank was founded by Worth H. Carter Jr. and opened one branch in Rocky Mount on December 13, 1974. Currently, Carter Bank has more than 60 branches in Virginia and North Carolina.

WPPDC hires new director
The Western Piedmont Planning District Commission (WPPDC) has appointed Christie Eberly as its new executive director. Mr. Eberly replaces Michael Armbrister, who has held the position for the past three years.

Mr. Eberly joined the committee in November 2020 and has served as associate director, regional program director and executive director. Prior to joining WPPDC, Eberly spent more than 16 years as the Executive Coordinator at the Lower Maryland Eastern Shore Tri-County Council.
WPPDC hires marketing specialist
The Western Piedmont Planning District Commission (WPPDC) has hired Amanda Gray as a tourism and marketing specialist.
Gray comes to WPPDC from Kissito Healthcare. There she served as marketing director for her Mulberry Creek Skilled Nursing and Assisted Living in Martinsville.
Gray graduated from Emory and Henry College with a double major in mass communications and sports management. She has been in the marketing field for over 13 years in the Western Piedmont region.
Family support group gathers
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Martinsville-Henry County will hold its winter season NAMI Family Support Group Program at the New College, 191 Fayette Street, beginning on February 6th at 7:00 p.m., and the first Tuesday of each month thereafter. Offered at the Institute. , located in Martinsville.
NAMI offers free programs across the country to support families living with mental health issues.
