There’s a new chef in town! Eleven-year-old Eden Raum opened her own cupcake and sweets shop.
Eden started baking several years ago and developed a love and talent for creating sweet treats.
“I like being in the kitchen and making things,” she said.
The demand for her cupcakes began when she started making cupcakes for the Rotary Club of Palestine’s PolioPlus fundraiser.
For Christmas, her father, Shane Raum, bought a freeze dryer and various items for the family to try out. Candy When the idea for Her Hustle was born, the family experimented with fruit and candy.

Sweet E’s Sweet Shoppe sells cupcakes and freeze-dried candy. Eden’s cupcakes are made by pre-order only, but her candies are available for purchase at her booth at Basket She Kase, 112 W. Oak St., downtown Palestine.
Some of the candies she has made so far include freeze-dried Skittles, salt water taffy, gummy worms, lifesavers, trolley worms, and Nerd Clusters. For her Valentine’s Day, Eden is offering a special package of freeze-dried her skittles.
Each week, Eden offers special cupcakes through Sweet E’s Facebook page.
Armed with a cookbook her grandmother gave her for her birthday, Eden has 100 flavors to choose from. Her offerings include carrot cake, spiced cupcakes with candied cranberries, root beer and Coca-Cola. Eden said all of her cupcakes are homemade by her.
Eden thinks the best cupcakes are cookies and cream, but her mother said her favorite is the classic chocolate one, which isn’t in the cookbook she was given, because it’s so moist.
For Valentine’s Day, she’s offering two flavors. Her signature moist chocolate and whipped cream icing, and champagne and champagne buttercream icing.
Eden also makes cakes, cheesecakes, and other sweet treats.
Alexandria Ripley recently ordered a cake from a young baker for a special event.
“I contacted Mary and Eden because I wanted a special cake for Chloe’s 16th birthday,” Ms Ripley said. “Eden made the best chocolate cake and went the extra mile to make it special with Chloe’s favorite color icing. We love Eden’s sweets.”
Eden’s mother Mary teaches her about things like branding and investing and helps her develop her business from the ground up.
“I’m so proud of Eden,” Mary said. “She has an entrepreneurial spirit and she really likes making people happy.
“My favorite thing about this whole little business is that she and I get to spend quality time together and she’s learning what it takes to own a business. You have to buy ingredients, packaging, pay rent, manage inventory. I think her favorite thing was doing the taste tests and then playing around with the logo.”
It’s an after-school and weekend endeavor for Eden, a student at Elkhart Elementary School, but when she’s home, her mother said she can be found in the kitchen making something sweet.
All of her cupcake sales through June 2024 will continue to be donated as part of her effort to raise $2,000 for PolioPlus.
Some of the money she earns from selling candy is used to pay off the $300 initial investment loan to her mother, some is used to invest in more products and packaging, and some is put into savings. and the rest will be used to invest in the mother’s future. allowed to spend time.
