Madison Richardson and Katlyn Wise were among the participants at the inaugural Young Entrepreneur Expo. Madison makes crocheted items and Katrin draws all kinds of art. These young women are students at Scottsboro High School.
Madison named her business “Muddy Hatters.” Madison thought it would be fun to make and sell crocheted items. Katrin’s business is called Freak Show Arts, and it’s a business that draws art. She draws a variety of paintings and she also likes spooky things. She came up with the business name by combining these two interests of hers.
Before the expo, Madison had been making crocheted items for about a year and selling them to teachers and friends. Katrin has been making products for about two years. She has been selling to her family and their friends.
Both young women say art is their favorite subject in school. “Art class allows you to be creative,” Madison adds. “It helps me get better,” says Katrin.
Katrin is a member of the National Arts Honor Society. She said she and Madison plan to continue the business.
Madison and Katlin say they were encouraged by Christy Ray, an art teacher at Scottsboro High School. Katrin says she also received encouragement from her mother and her grandfather. Madison has been encouraged by her parents and others.
Madison is the daughter of Sandra and Jeremy Morrison and has a younger sister, Shelby. Her grandparents are Janice Turner and Bobby Turner. She is in her senior year at Madison Scottsboro High School. If she would like to purchase her crocheted items, please call her at 256-703-7915.
