Kuwaiti telecom operator Zain Group has introduced a mobile app offering a range of financial services to promote economic inclusion in the Middle East. The service was initially offered in Bahrain and later expanded across the company’s locations.
Bede was launched through Zain’s financial technology arm and is touted to promote financial inclusion by providing microfinance services that adhere to local values.
Zain noted that there are plans to add money transfer, credit card and payment services in due course, subject to regulatory and commercial considerations.
The platform employs AI to improve its credit scoring procedures, and Zain said the brand is working with “people who want to fund emergencies as well as those who want to manage their day-to-day expenses more efficiently.” The website is designed to be “accessible and useful to everyone, even those with disabilities.”
Bader Al-Kharafi, vice chairman and group CEO of Zain, said the launch of Bede comes alongside the company’s vision to “expand much-needed fintech services” in Iraq, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. , said it is in line with the company’s 4Sight strategy, which aims to unlock opportunities through digital services. , “and soon” Kuwait and Sudan.
