Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal has married Mexican entrepreneur Grecia Muñoz, sources said. The wedding took place more than a month ago, but she requested anonymity. Originally from Mexico, Muñoz transitioned from his modeling career to founding his own startup specializing in luxury consumer goods.
Deepinder Goyal and Grecia Munoz returned home after their honeymoon in February. Muñoz, who identifies herself as originally from Mexico but currently living in India, shared snippets of her exploration of Delhi on Instagram in early January.
This is Goyal’s second marriage; he was previously married to Kanchan Joshi, whom he met during their days at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.
Deepinder Goyal (41) is the founder and CEO of Zomato, a food delivery platform headquartered in Gurugram. He founded his company in 2008 with the name Foodiebay and launched it from his home apartment. Zomato has since grown to become a leading company in the food delivery space, operating in over 1,000 cities across India.
Recently, Zomato faced criticism for introducing a “pure vegetable” delivery force, distinguished by green uniforms instead of the usual red. The decision was quickly reversed after huge backlash on social media, with Goyal acknowledging that on-site isolation could jeopardize the safety of delivery workers.
Meanwhile, Zomato has decided not to pursue any more ‘green’ initiatives and has changed its approach. The aggregator recently revealed its intention to introduce a ‘Pure Veg’ mode within its app, specifically aimed at catering to vegetarian customers.
Zomato also revealed that orders placed through this mode will be delivered by delivery personnel wearing green uniforms. However, the announcement sparked a wave of discontent on social media platforms, with many users expressing concerns about possible privacy violations. They argued that this approach could inadvertently reveal one’s dietary preferences to others.
In response to the outcry, Goyal addressed the situation on social media. He confirmed that Zomato will go ahead with plans for a ‘Pure Veg’ mode but will abandon the concept of a distinct green uniform.
