PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Allegheny County Executive Sara Inamorato announced Wednesday $500,000 in additional funding for the child care pilot program.
The funding will eliminate the waiting list for the Childcare Issues Program, which provides childcare subsidies to 28 families, opening more slots to eligible families.
Allegheny County encourages families who are unsure whether they are eligible to contact the Early Learning Resource Center.
“Even if you don’t qualify for this program, they can help you find a child care facility that fits your needs and find out what you may qualify for.” said Innamorato.
To qualify, families must meet not only income requirements but also work or education time requirements.
For example, a family of four must earn between $60,000 and $90,000 a year to qualify.
Back in April 2022, the Allegheny County Office of Children’s Initiatives and the Early Learning Resource Center launched a pilot program that quickly filled out and resulted in a waiting list of 28 families by the time this funding was announced. .
It is estimated that 15,000 children in Allegheny County are eligible for the program.
Investments in the Child Care Matters program are funded by funding provided by the American Rescue Plan passed by Congress in 2021.
