Local businesses are in shock and disbelief after a man scurried away from a Quincy courthouse.
I’m Ashley Engle, Quincy’s neighborhood reporter. Quincy Police Department leaders are working on new initiatives to make the plaza safer in the wake of recent shootings.
Protecting neighborhood residents and business owners…
“They are doing everything they can to protect us.”
…Like Jennifer Lacognata of Bantam Bay Safe.
“I am shocked that something so horrible could happen just steps away from my business, in a place that feels like my home.”
She’s talking about the Dec. 31 shooting on East Washington Street. I walked from her office to the place where the incident happened.
The walk took less than two minutes.
“I was just speechless, I didn’t see that coming.”
On Wednesday, police confirmed that the Criminal Investigation Division had arrested 28-year-old Bakary Price on suspicion of second-degree murder.
The shooting occurred in an area where there are many pedestrians and shoppers.
“We have plans to increase patrols as well as work with local businesses that are open after hours to set up some form of security where large groups of people gather.”
QPD is working to increase patrols and reduce crime in the city so that business owners and shoppers like Jennifer feel safe coming downtown.
“I think that would help. I know the police are trying to increase patrols.”
