The owner of a Milwaukee personal care business has pleaded guilty to federal tax and bankruptcy crimes.
Federal prosecutors say Lakisha S. Jackson, 45, withheld more than $100,000 in payroll taxes from her employees’ paychecks in the second, third and fourth quarters of 2017. He claimed he intentionally failed to pay the Internal Revenue Service.
Her business, Nurturing Concepts LLC, which operates on North Avenue in Milwaukee, filed and was listed as the largest creditor with the IRS.

Jackson admitted that he fraudulently submitted false bank statements during this proceeding to conceal a $40,000 transfer to Jackson’s successor business, Centers of Care LLC.
Mr. Jackson also admitted that he improperly diverted payments made to Nurturing Concepts to this successor business.
“Individuals and businesses that engage in this type of tax fraud and bankruptcy fraud not only harm all taxpayers, but also challenge businesses that play by the rules,” said Gregory J. Hernstad, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin. “It puts us at a commercial disadvantage.” in a statement Tuesday.

She pleaded guilty on January 31st.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for April 30 before U.S. District Judge Lynn Adleman.
This case was investigated by special agents of the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Division. The prosecutor was Assistant U.S. Attorney Faris Martini.
