RED OAK, Iowa – Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Ranking Member of the Senate Small Business Committee, today announced Small Business of the Week: Tilly’s Quilt of Webster County. Throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst plans to recognize small businesses in all of his 99 counties in Iowa.
“Tilly’s Quilts provides a gathering place and welcoming atmosphere where people of all ages and skill levels can practice the historic tradition of quilting.” said ranking member Ernst. “Joe’s efforts to pursue her passion and remember her great-aunt’s legacy are commendable. In addition to providing quilting products to her customers, she also promotes learning, creativity, and fellowship in Webster County. I’m proud to recognize this business.”
Driven by the dream of owning her own quilt shop, Joe Seltz founded Tilly’s Quilts in 2011 to serve both experienced and novice quilters in Webster County. Housed in a renovated historic building in downtown Fort Dodge, this shop offers designer fabrics and patterns, quilt kits, quilting supplies, and quilting classes. Customers can also join monthly clubs and social events held at the shop. Joe received his first quilt from his great-aunt Matilda “Tilly” Jacobs. That gift inspired Joe’s love of quilting and ultimately led to the creation of Tilly’s Quilts. Although Tilly passed away in 1994, Joe continues to honor her legacy of hard work, kindness, and passion for the quilting business.
Stay tuned as Ranking Member Ernst recognizes more Iowa small businesses across the state with this week’s Small Business of the Year Award.
